Kingdom of Cats
The Cats see themselves at the centre of the world. The Kingdom enjoys a temperate climate and lands spared from human pollution, which allowed a rapid rise in meowgic studies, agricultural production and technological development. Meowgic is everywhere, used daily to ease chores and heal small hurts.
Most inhabitants are Cats, but you also come across ferret merchants, stray dogs and skunk minstrels. Rodents, however, are rare here. All inhabitants respect the universal law: "an animal that speaks does not eat an animal that speaks".
The Kingdom is ruled by King Walter, a tyrant who took the throne by cunning and holds it through fear. He imposes heavy, vexing taxes, uses the Exile of Kittens to break any family resistance, and plots with the Yardogs to keep up a climate of insecurity.
