The Suburbs

The Suburbs are the working-class districts that sprawl at the foot of the tower of Cat Tree City. Small houses and huts crowd together there, home to small traders, workers and craftsfolk, well away from the quiet, plush apartments higher up.

Three main districts make it up: the Marketplace, Chopton and the Soot District. The Wastelands lie beyond.

The suburbs also suffer from Walter's appetite: taxes are harsh, and houses are regularly torn down to widen the base of the tower or build factories. For some years now, Walter has been preparing for war: craftsfolk, taxed and bullied, are forced to go and work in the factories. Inequalities are ever more glaring.
