Clément de Ruyter

Clément de Ruyter is a Parisian author, illustrator and director, a graduate of the Gobelins school (2013). The creator of the Dungeons and Kittens universe, he conceived the project as a dual medium combining an animated series and a tabletop role-playing game.

Background and animation

After his short film Fol'Amor (2013), he worked as a background artist for various studios (Xilam, Sun Creature) before co-directing the children's series Les Gardes Chimères (Okoo/France TV, 2024, produced by Monello) with Jérémy Guiter. An animated adaptation of Dungeons and Kittens is currently in development with Watch Next and writer Mélanie Duval.

Dungeons and Kittens

For the Core Rulebook published by the French publisher Studio Deadcrows, he provided the original idea, the art direction, the illustrations, the maps, the plans and the cover, the page layout together with John Grümph, and co-wrote the text alongside Trickytophe, John Grümph and François Cedelle.

The origins of the project are detailed on Genesis of the Game. Very active within the community, he regularly produces volunteer illustrations (e.g. La Dernière Parade) and offers artbooks of his universe through the Aaapoum Bapoum bookshop.
