Clément de Ruyter

Clément de Ruyter is a Parisian author, illustrator and director, a graduate of the Gobelins school (2013). He came up with the Dungeons and Kittens universe, which he conceived as a dual medium, both a tabletop role-playing game and an animated series.

Dungeons and Kittens

The Core Rulebook credits him with the original idea and the art direction. He drew its cover, illustrations, maps and plans, co-wrote its text with Trickytophe, François Cedelle and John Grümph, and laid it out together with the latter. He holds the same original idea, art direction and illustration credits on the Screen Booklet.

For the Starter Set, Book 2 and Book 3, he is credited for the setting, the cover and the illustrations, the latter made with help from Lucy Vallin.

Before the Studio Deadcrows releases, he self-published a first booklet of the game in 2018, whose story is told on the Genesis of the Game page. He also offers artbooks of his universe through the Aaapoum Bapoum bookshop.

Within the community, he regularly makes volunteer illustrations, such as the cover of the scenario La Dernière Parade.

Background and animation

After his short film Fol'Amor (2013), he worked as a background artist for the Xilam and Sun Creature studios. He then co-directed the children's series Les Gardes Chimères (Okoo/France TV, 2024) with Jérémy Guiter, produced by Monello.

With Mélanie Duval, he co-created the animated series based on the universe, produced by Watch Next, which he also co-directs with Jérémy Guiter.
