Genesis of the game

Donjons & Chatons grew out of the world imagined by Clément de Ruyter. Before becoming a tabletop roleplaying line published by Studio Deadcrows, the project already existed in several forms: drawings, a first game booklet and an animated series project.

This page traces the main known milestones of the roleplaying version, from the first self-published booklet to the current releases.

Timeline

Dec. 2018

Self-published A5 booklet

Before the Studio Deadcrows line, Donjons & Chatons circulated as a small self-published booklet. The Aaapoum Bapoum listing presents it as a color A5 booklet of about 16 pages, published in December 2018.

This first version offered a short, light gateway into the world, far more compact than the core book that followed.

Feb. 13, 2023

Core book funding

The project was then taken up and developed by Studio Deadcrows. The funding campaign for Book 1: Core Rulebook launched on February 13, 2023 on Game On Tabletop.

Late March 2023

Book 1: PDF version

At the end of the campaign, the PDF version of the core book became available around late March 2023.

Summer / Oct. 2023

Book 1: physical version

The physical version of Book 1: Core Rulebook then reached stores in 2023, between summer and autumn depending on distribution channels.

Sept. 2023

Animated series in development

The animated series Dungeons and Kittens was announced in development with Watch Next and France Télévisions. Communications at the time mentioned a release planned for 2025, but no actual broadcast date has been confirmed to date.

The series belongs to the same broad imaginary world, but it remains distinct from the roleplaying releases listed on this wiki.

Book 2: Aux sources de la Miagie
