Bigwheel is a free enclave devoted to laughter and shows, founded by Dualeaper, the raccoon who carries Dreamsinger. He bought the ruins of an old human amusement park from Baron Embergrunt of Corktown, then restored them through courage and sweat. His greatest pride: the majestic big wheel that stands at the centre of the grounds and gave the place its name.

Entertainers, minstrels, troubadours and street artists gather here all year round to put on fabulous shows. Other animals live here permanently, ageing artists and travelling troupes passing through, all drawn by the atmosphere of freedom and carefree spirit that Fremper has managed to create.

Fremper knows that people will come one day, once the tyrants have been brought down. Bigwheel is that beacon: the brighter its light shines, the faster hope spreads. For now, few animals brave the roads to reach it, what with the fear of brigands, the spread of tyrannical powers and the constant threat of the Riders on the Storm, who have sought to seize Dreamsinger ever since their leader Edmund began selling the nightmarish nights of his rival trumpet far and wide.
