Edmund

Description

Edmund is an old tortoise with a dark shell and red skin mottled with brown, who always wears a long dark red cape. From a sedan chair he never leaves, he barks orders at the Riders on the Storm, the troupe he leads.

He plays the magic trumpet Nightscreamer with rare skill, yet remains sad, hateful and quick to anger. He hires out his trumpet to whoever wishes to inflict nights of dread on their enemies.

Nightscreamer and the bagpipes Dreamsinger were made generations ago by two rival students of the first archmeowge, and the troupes that inherited them have been quarreling ever since. Edmund cannot understand why Dualeaper, the bearer of Dreamsinger, always avoids a fight, which he sees as the spice of life and a tradition to be respected.
