The Slumbering Forest

The Slumbering Forest is a vast forest reputed to be meowgical, lying between the Kingdom of Cats and the Junkyard. Selene rules its heart: this spirit takes the shape of a gigantic owl with leafy plumage, whose two great horns are made of flowering branches. She sleeps without end, lulled by the bagpipes Dreamsinger, and her enchanted dreams give the wood its vitality.

Over the years, the dogs and the Cats have settled ever closer to the wood, and many wild animals have fled. Trees are felled to feed the Junkyard's furnaces and to build homes for the Cats. Selene's lullaby has slowly turned into a hoarse rasp of brass that echoes through the forest and wakes terrifying creatures.

The forest is guarded by Luna, a greyhound born in the Junkyard who fled Brutus's brutality to protect Selene's domain.
