Crew of the Jour d'été

The Jour d'été is Captain Capucine's schooner. Her crew is as motley as the seas she sails.

• Boniface, the first mate. A well-built crab with a weathered shell, rescued from a shipwreck by the captain and entirely devoted to her.
• Madame Roucoucou, doctor and cook. A strong-willed turtledove, specialist in spicy fish soup and in patching up careless sailors.
• Gédéon, known as "La Planche", ship's craftsman. An old tinkering beaver, carpenter, sailmaker and ropemaker, who takes near-loving care of the ship.
• Jack, lookout. A crude, thrill-seeking marmoset, who spends most of his time at the top of the mainmast.
• Matthias, cabin boy. A shy young pup taken in at Embrasse, afraid of everything, who plays the flute on deck in the evenings.
• Plouf, Plaf and Plif, the sailor brothers. Three inseparable catfish, aboard to pay off a gambling debt.
