Doctor Mojo's Isle of Evimettal
Off the coast of Corktown, lost in mist and sea spray, stands a structure of steel and cast iron suspended above the water on a tangle of gigantic rusted pillars. In high winds the structure sways and lets out long, dull groans. Salt eats away everywhere, corrosion creeps on.
This old oil rig is the lair of Doctor Mojo, an octopus in a colourful suit with an affected accent. With his parrot assistant Lemi, he runs experiment after experiment on beasts supplied to him by a few unscrupulous pirates: his goal is to give them the power of speech, to reproduce the miracle that occurred when the humans vanished. His methods are unorthodox, involving the ingestion of seaweed potions and intensive training in gesture and speech.
The inside of the isle is a maze of airlocks, gangways and rusted stairs, slippery, slimy and unstable. The atmosphere is more grotesque zoo than sinister laboratory: Lemi gives poetry lessons to hens while Mojo hands out blue soup to reluctant pigs. The isle's unsettling reputation mainly serves to keep the curious at bay and to impress the pirates, notably Captain Blueclaw, who supply the doctor with beasts and equipment.
